The Frontier

From desert outpost to a meadow of machines

Start with a training saber in a dusty trading post. By the end you’ll have crossed a lake by hoverbike, raided an underground lab, teleported to orbit, conquered an ice colosseum and stepped onto a meadow where machines fly.

Skills

Eight skills. Every one goes to 99.

Progress the classic way: every swing, hack and ore you mine earns experience. Pick a path or master them all, then wear the skillcape to prove it.

  • Start with a pickaxe, turn it into a drill, then upgrade through seven tiers all the way to a Mining Laser.
  • Bury bones from every creature to deepen your Focus, then spend it on attack and defence rituals.
  • Craft full sets of melee and ranged armour at the workbench.
  • Earn a cape with its own emblem for every skill you max.
Focus

Bury bones. Bend reality.

Every creature drops bones. Bury them to train Focus, then spend focus points (refilled at any altar) on four kinds of power.

  • ✦
RitualsCombat buffs you switch on and off. Attack rituals sharpen your accuracy and damage, defence rituals cut how often and how hard you get hit. They drain focus while they run. Fury and Stone from the start, Wrath at Focus 12, Bastion at 18, Ascension at 26 and the Aegis at 32.
  • ✨
TransmutationFuse two healing items into one stronger one, from humble Healing Pods all the way up to Bauble Berries.
  • ⇶
Ability powersKinetic Push (Focus 16) blasts nearby enemies into the walls, and Mind Freeze (Focus 26) locks them in place so they can’t move or strike.
  • ☠
Ability summonsCall a ghostly ally to fight beside you for 15 seconds: a Skeleton at Focus 12, a golden Knight at 24, a Cyborg Samurai at 30 and, for true masters, the Warlock Master at 34 with fire, ice and thunder.
The four focus summons: a ghostly blue skeleton with a cutlass, a golden paladin knight, a purple cyborg samurai with a long katana, and a red warlock with a glowing staff

The Armoury

Gear that shows up on your character

Everything you equip is drawn on your hero, from bronze plate to a six-piece insect carapace. Mix melee sets, ranged sets and rare hybrid armour to build your own look.

Six heroes in different armour sets: Warlord with the Devil Edge, neon cyborg, Warhunter, Shadowveil robes, Hivemind carapace with the Healzooka, and paladin
Six heroes showing weapons: Ice Buster, a Blaze Vanguard hero with the Plasma Pistol, Toxic Claws, Bronze Guard with a Steel Scimitar, Gold Reaper Scythe and the silver Pulse Rifle
Crafted weapons

Pick your colour

12 recolourable weapons · 6 colours

Craft a weapon at a workbench and you choose its colour: red, cyan, yellow, orange, purple or white. Its blade or glow, icon, name and every shot it fires all match, and you can keep a whole rack of the same weapon in different colours.

Top row: six heroes in Blaze Vanguard armour holding the Aetherium Railgun in red, cyan, yellow, orange, purple and white. Bottom row: six heroes in Demon armour facing forward, each holding a Solar Double Saber in one of the same six colours. Third row: six heroes in Paladin armour with the Mireglass Cleaver in each colour. Bottom row: six heroes in Neon Cyborg armour aiming the Mireglass Repeater in each colour

Legendary weapons

Rare drops, secrets, casino jackpots and gold-dyed upgrades. Each one has its own look and effects. 37 weapons in all, from training sabers to plasma pistols that fire glowing goo.

  • ★ Devil Edge
  • ★ Dart of Destruction
  • ★ Twin Reaver Chainsaws
  • ★ Twin Deluxe Chainsaws
  • ★ Gold Reaper Scythe
  • ★ Skyfall Beacon
  • ★ Light Bringer
  • ★ Stormcaller Bolt
  • ★ Cryo Talons
  • ★ Barbed Yo-Yo

Ten armour sets

Five melee sets from Bronze Guard to Abyssal, five ranged sets from Shadow Outlaw to Blaze Vanguard, each crafted from the ore you mine.

Boss-only hybrid armour

Warhunter, Shadowveil and Hivemind sets drop only from bosses, at 1 in 20. They boost melee and ranged at once.

A hero wearing the Hacking Cape, seen from behind with its glowing circuit emblem, and from the side
HACKING CAPE · LEVEL 99
Skill capes

Max a skill, wear the proof

Reach level 99 in any skill and the Cape Merchant in Dunewell will sell you its skill cape. Every one of the eight capes has its own colours and an emblem on the back: crossed green lightsabers for Melee, a crosshair for Ranged, glowing circuitry for Hacking, a drill for Mining and more.

Capes show on your hero from every angle, flowing behind you as you walk.

And behind the shop hangs the Grandmaster Cape, sealed to its rack by a force nobody understands. Not even the merchant who wove it can move it. Only a hero with every skill at 99 can lift it free.

Player housing
